Press Release On Wednesday 24th August the Ballymun Garden Club in association with Global Action Plan held an Open Day event in the Muck and Magic Community Garden in Ballymun. The Lord Mayor of Dublin, Andrew Montague, opened this event. The Ballymun Garden Club was set up earlier this year with the support of Global Action Plan, funded by Ballymun Regeneration Ltd. The aim of the club is to bring like-minded people together to support and share gardening skills and knowledge. One of the initiatives undertaken by the club this year is development of the Muck and Magic community garden. The Muck & Magic Community garden is open to everyone in the community who are keen to learn how to grow food in an organic sustainable way. Dublin City Council granted the club temporary use of this site, where raised vegetable beds have been installed. The harvest of organic vegetables and herbs is shared and enjoyed by all participants. Vanessa Moore, CEO of Global Action Plan, commented: ‘The Ballymun Garden Club has gone from strength to strength in such a short period of time and just shows how much can be achieved when residents come together for a common goal’. The Muck & Magic garden is a wonderful place where local residents can come together, share practical garden skills and knowledge in a relaxed and informal way’. The Ballymun Garden Club is the first garden club set up in Ballymun and the existing members would warmly welcome anyone who would like to come along to their monthly meetings held in the local Neighbourhood Centres. The members host various activities and workshops on a variety of garden skills such as plant propagation and also organise outside speakers to speak to the group about garden related topics. The Lord Mayor of Dublin, Andrew Montague said, ‘I am really pleased to attend this event as I have been attempting to grow my own fruit and vegetables for the past three years and hope to learn a few useful tips. The Ballymun Garden Club shows what a group of like-minded people can achieve when they work together to share knowledge and skills to promote organic gardening and encourage residents to produce their own food. I wish the Ballymun Garden Club every success in the future”. Notes for the editor: GAP is an environmental charity that offers practical solutions to everyday environmental problems.
