My First Few Weeks as Lord Mayor
I’ve been very busy over the last 3 weeks since my election as Lord Mayor, but I’m enjoying every moment.
One of the themes of my year in office is ‘anti-social behaviour’. On Tuesday I met with Seán Alyward, Secretary General of the Department of Justice and Equality. I wanted the chance to speak with Seán prior to his retirement next week. He was very supportive of my plans to hold a conference on this subject and he encouraged me to look to other cities who have struggled with anti-social behaviour issues in the past. I will keep you informed of any developments.
Today I hosted the jury members for Pivot Dublin’s bid for World Design Capital 2014. I was joined by the Dublin City Manager, John Tierney & Dublin City Architect, Ali Grehan, as we toured Government Buildings, Trinity College, TCD Science Gallery & the Docklands area. We were honoured to be greeted by Ministers Ruairi Quinn and Jimmy Deenihan.
Tomorrow I will be joined by my counterparts from Fingal, Dun Laoghaire/Rathdown & South Dublin County Councils and will meet An Taoiseach in Government Buildings before heading to Ballymun Regeneration & Kilbarrack Fire Station. These locations will give us the opportunity to meet people closely involved in promoting sustainable design issues in Dublin
This 2-day visit gives us the opportunity to showcase Dublin at its best, despite the rain. Let’s all keep our fingers crossed for a positive outcome.
